Granted, that may be because these characters are at a lower power level, but I think the D4 team has gone out of their way to make things a bit slower and less arcade-y than Diablo 3. Past that, gameplay still feels a bit…off to me in general. I have always been a Barbarian main so perhaps I’m a bit biased, but I like what I see here.
Of the three classes shown here, I feel like the Barbarian is looking the strongest with its movesets and different weapons. I hope the final build does not lose any of this detail. I always wondered how Diablo would continue to evolve over time, given that it needed to stay with this kind of isometric format, but they really have done a fantastic job with the environment design here, which goes well beyond anything we’ve seen from the series to date. Diablo IV is still very much a isometric, dungeon-crawling RPG with crunchy combat. The gameplay footage shown looks pretty far into development. We also got our first look at three of the game’s classes including the Barbarian, Sorceress, and Druid who got received a booming reception from the audience. Inspired by Diablo II, it will be full of friendly and enemy NPCs as well as players who you can interact with and even hunt in PvP zones. He also touched on the game world itself which sounds more dynamic and open than past games. Barriga promises that fights will be gruesome and there will be no clean victories.
There will be plenty of blood and guts as well as occult symbology. Game director, Luis Barriga, then came out on stage to give us some details on the game itself.ĭiablo IV will have a much bigger focus on horror with a more medieval, gothic depiction of hell and its denizens. It’s a lengthy trailer and one that underlines the sequel’s much dark overtones.
